Summary

The Sr. Specialist - Quality Assurance (Meat) provides experienced facilitation and support of QA process and workflow functions to achieve departmental goals. The Quality Assurance Senior Specialist supports the Purchasing team on scientific and regulatory matters as they relate to meat products to ensure products comply with federal and state regulations and defined product specifications.

What You’ll Do

  • Implement the following processes in accordance with Quality Assurance Standards: Audits (suppliers’ production sites), internal and external consumer and expert tastings, quality developments for own brand food items, quality controls for meat product groups, processing official product complaints, product test management, traceability & supplier, and backlog monitoring
  • Weekly quality assessment at RDC’s or Stores
  • Collect data for, archive, maintain and file analytics reports, supplier audits and official complaints in particular
  • Monitor, evaluate, document and communicate process results in accordance with Quality Assurance Standards
  • Point of contact for internal and external stakeholders in the case of current questions and guidelines in relation to quality assurance, such as communication with the authorities, customers and suppliers
  • Partner with suppliers and buyers to create product specifications for all meat lines sold in stores
  • Coordinate various sampling, testing, evaluation and risk assessment activities in accordance with Quality Assurance Standards
  • Research, monitor, and assess legal and market developments; evaluate product risks; derive and implement the necessary measures to correct product problems; 
  • Interpret and monitor product quality information, maintaining databases and digital information in support of quality assurance process
  • Mentor and support junior team member with technical challenges
  • Perform other duties as assigned

What You’ll Need

  • Master’s Degree; or
  • Bachelor's Degree and 2+ years of experience; or
  • High school diploma/GED and 5+ years of experience in related field
  • Knowledge of principles and methods of food science, physics, chemistry, or biology, consumer products regulations, production and manufacturing processes, and quality assurance practices, or other relevant areas of the retail industry
  • Ability to keep up to date with State and Federal regulations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to multi-task with a high attention to detail
  • Effective time management skills
  • Previous food production, industry, or butcher experience preferred 
  • PCQI Certification preferred 
  • HACCP Manager Certification preferred
