Summary

The Junior Buyer (Trainee - Purchasing (Buying)) contributes to the development of Lidl’s purchasing strategy through detailed market analysis, sourcing new suppliers, and assisting with contract negotiations. The Trainee will be enrolled in a twelve-month program which consists of a cross-departmental introduction, field assignments, and training in two different functional areas of the business (e.g. Private Label, National Brands, Produce, Promotions and/or Non-Food). This training will ensure that a solid foundation of knowledge is built so that the Trainee can further the department’s goal of delivering high quality products, continuous product innovation, and the best value proposition for Lidl’s customers. The Trainee must demonstrate consistent growth throughout the program by exuding a self-starter mentality and through successful completion of tasks as assigned. By meeting all requirements throughout the twelve-month training program, the Trainee will become eligible to move into either the Sr. Analyst - Purchasing (Assistant Purchasing Manager) or the Buyer (Purchasing Manager) position. 

What You’ll Do

  • Attend all trainings as defined by program coordinator 
  • Prepare and collect relevant information in order to process purchase agreements and contracts
  • Support negotiations and ongoing communication/coordination with domestic & international suppliers
  • Prepare category analysis (WGA), quality control analysis and trend analysis
  • Analyze retail prices in coordination with the buyer, as well as the implementation and continuous monitoring of the retail landscape
  • Process and communicate with other departments and suppliers
  • Analyze various KPIs in coordination with the buyer on an ongoing basis
  • Prepare and assist in tastings and quality assurance for the negotiated items

What You’ll Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply-Chain, Retail or related field
  • Ability to make important decisions and cope with the pressure of demanding markets and tight deadlines
  • Ensure a high level of productivity by developing effective and efficient work practices
  • Ability to adapt to different client needs
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Detail oriented with strong organization skills, exceptional attention to detail, and excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Driver’s License
