Summary

The Customs Manager oversees the company’s customs compliance strategy and procedure for all imported goods. The role ensures the company complies with all laws and regulations affecting the movement of goods across different borders. The Manager is responsible for the development and implementation of all processes to ensure Lidl does not receive any unnecessary fees, fines or penalties. In addition, the individual is required to create and maintain a Lidl Customs Manual, as well as supporting colleagues and our external business partners regarding customs related issues.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop processes and procedures to ensure the department operates efficiently and compliantly
  • Create and maintain Customs process handbook and manuals
  • Develop functional expertise of US customs, import regulations and customs broker practices
  • Carry out continuous analysis of the regulatory environment including updates to trade tariffs and duties and trade restrictions and requirements
  • Liaise between regulatory bodies, trade partners and relevant internal departments; working closely with the Purchasing and Logistics departments, enabling them to achieve their goals by providing them with best-in-class customs and import information and advisory service
  • Source and identify training opportunities for the professional development of the team
  • Ensure the constant, efficient supply of imported goods- ensuring the company always has sufficient stock to ensure continual growth of sales
  • Oversee the successful self-filing of all entries
  • Guide the day-to-day activities of the entry writing team and ensure they are effectively meeting all entry and delivery deadlines in a compliant manner

What You’ll Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Retail, Business, Trade, Law or related field
  • U.S. Customs Broker License
  • 4+ years of experience in related field 
  • Understanding of and familiarity with the grocery and consumer goods sector
  • Ability to contrast and compare different trade options/opportunities in order to make recommendations based on the latest information available
  • Proficient with office software programs (i.e., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Advanced communication and organization skills
